A bit more about 'Speed the Plough'
Band members had all played with English traditional Bands and for Morris dancing. They came together in 1998 to play at a Reception for Scottish visitors to Derby during the annual Bonnie Prince Charlie commemorative events, now held annually first week end in December. By January the Band were playing for Burn's Nights as 'The Bonnie Prince Band'.
A request then came for the Band to play with a Caller, for a Charity Barn Dance, playing a traditional English Programme.
Since then the Band have enjoyed playing for many special celebrations in Grand venues, local Halls and even in a Kitchen. See photo. The Band have changed the name to 'Speed the Plough' the name of a tune which has English, Scottish and Irish connections.
Quote from a letter 12.6.09 'Hi John, I'm writing to thank you and all the band members for making my recent birthday barn dance such a success. Your music was wonderful and your calling clearly encouraged lots of people to take to the floor - there was a lovely atmosphere all evening. Many friends have said how much they enjoyed the music and remarked on the skill and humour of the caller.' L.H.Littleover, Derby.
